Better Together: Pathogen Genomics and Cross-sector Collaboration and Training to Drive Innovation for Public Health

June 13, 2024, 1:00 PM – 4:15 PM

For over a decade, CDC’s Advanced Molecular Detection program has been working to bring genomics into regular use in the public health system – encouraging and supporting novel strategies to address infectious disease threats. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, wastewater surveillance became an important tool used to track levels of SARS-CoV-2 in communities across the U.S. and inform public health action. Novel uses of genomics in public health require collaborations with new partners and close coordination across sectors to communicate quickly and clearly about the methods, data and implications for public health actions. Presenters and panelists will discuss innovative uses of genomics and discuss the benefits and opportunities of leveraging expertise across sectors.
