Press Release: House Bill 304, Governor Kemp’s Georgia Made Medical Manufacturing Act
“As the leading life sciences organization in the state, Georgia Bio fully supports House Bill 304, Governor Kemp’s Georgia Made Medical Manufacturing Act. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us many lessons, but chief among those is that we must be able to provide for the public health of our citizens. This legislation will highlight the great work our pharmaceutical and medical supply chains have done, create jobs for the life sciences sector, and further grow the industry.
Drug shortages have become more frequent over the past decade, in part due to an overreliance on pharmaceutical ingredients from overseas. Approximately 72 percent of active ingredients used in common household prescription and over-the-counter medicines are manufactured abroad. Not only should all Americans have the prescription medications they need, we as a nation should have the ability to manufacture lifesaving medications instead of relying on other countries. This is why we support the Georgia Made Medical Manufacturing Act. It will strengthen Georgia’s ability to support patients during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thank you to Governor Kemp and bill sponsor Rep. Jodi Lott (R-Evans) for your continued support of the life sciences ecosystem in Georgia.”
