12:50 pm – 1:05 pm ⇒ Rear View Mirror: Did COVID-19 Shape the Future of Connected Medication Management?
It’s hard to believe it was a full year ago that hospitals were forced to expand rapidly to care for COVID-19 patients. Never has the mission to advance the world of health been so critical, as health care workers on the front lines leaped into action to deliver care to the patients and communities they serve.
The pandemic pushed global health care systems into hyper drive and continues to test the capabilities of health care workers and hospital technology. Pre-pandemic challenges such as hospital acquired infections, medication and supply shortages, and diversion persisted even while health systems were challenged to manage care for COVID-19 patients and those with post-COVID-19 complications.
As we optimistically round the corner on the pandemic, Mike Garrison, Worldwide President – BD Medication Management Solutions, will discuss how shifts in health care processes and technology usage during the pandemic have shaped the future of connected medication management.

2:35 pm – 2:50 pm ⇒ Reducing Bias in Health Care AI Models
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has now moved from the research lab into the clinic. Although AI has generated state-of-the-art algorithms that detect and predict disease, some algorithms may be biased due to a lack of access to large, diverse healthcare datasets. Federated learning (FL) is a method to train AI algorithms in a privacy-preserving manner. FL might be a crucial piece in the AI puzzle. It can allow researchers to develop AI algorithms that “work as well in Moscow, Montevideo, and Mumbai as they do in Manhattan”. In this talk, we’ll explain the approach and highlight a use case to develop an AI algorithm that can detect brain tumors from MR scans using data from a global cohort of hospitals.
Speakers:
- G. Anthony Reina, MD, Chief AI Architect for Health & Life Sciences, Intel
2:50 pm – 3:15 pm ⇒ MedTech Meets Consumer Tech to Reshape Health Care
As leading consumer technology companies bring their capabilities and services to consumers in new and innovative ways, they are also spawning new collaborations with medtech companies that are reshaping health care. This session will highlight the emergence of six trends that are recasting the future of medtech and showcase how new consumer tech entrants are bringing their sophisticated, consumer-focused perspectives, services, capabilities, and analytics to MedTech. Additionally, the panel will explore on-going opportunities for medtech and consumer tech companies to collaborate.
